Shelley Fryer's Blog: Technology 101 for Teachers
|
Recently I checked out a blog by Shelley Fryer, a member of A Plus Oklahoma schools. Throughout her post, Shelley talks about tehcnology for teachers: what you need to know, how to integrate technology into the classroom, and how to use it for assessment.
Shelley begins by talking about what you need to know before you go into a lesson using technology. The first step is having your own iPad to use. It is important to be able to play around with the iPad and be able to understand the common buttons you see in various apps. |
This will help you be able to explain things to your students. If I were you, I would check out Shelley's blog post that is full of apps to download such as iNigma or Book Creator. iNigma is a QR code app. This would be something to put on guided notes for students. If they go home and aren't sure what the notes are saying, they can open the QR code and watch a video or your presentation for that day to refresh their memory. Book Creator is a great app for students to use to showcase their knowledge of a topic. It is an app where students create a book about anything.
This leads me into assessment. How can we assess students using technology? Shelley mentions using projects where students can show what they've learned. Apps that would be good for this would be Book Creator, Pic Collage, and iMovie. I already mentioned Book Creator once so I won't talk about it again, but Pic Collage is an app similar to Book Creator. The only difference is that Pic Collage only gives you one page to post pictures, words, QR codes, or desgins to demonstrate what you've learned. I would suggest using these for smaller assessments. Another app your students could use is iMovie. This is a great way for students to use pictures, videos, and voice over to demonstrate their knowledge. There are a lot of possibilities with this app! |

It was great getting to read Shelley's blog today and get an idea of how technology could be integrated into the classroom! As always, if you happen to stop by her blog, let me know on Twitter!
